Here at Roborough Vet, we are proud to say we have a dedicated work family, consisting of an amazing team of two permanent veterinary surgeons, two locum veterinary surgeons, six registered veterinary nurses, four receptionists and one animal nursing assistant.
We are a caring, friendly, laid-back practice that makes fun out of every day. Most importantly, we’re all here to help you keep your pets happy and healthy.
Ben – Practice Owner and Veterinary Surgeon
Ben grew up in a small country town in Australia where his parents settled as the town’s local doctor and nurse. hw was awarded a scholarship to study Veterinary medicine in Brisbane, and graduated with 1st class honours in 2008. After working in rural practice and emergency medicine for a few years, he took over ownership of a mixed animal hospital in rural NSW, which he ran for almost a decade, moving it into a beautiful purpose built practice in that time. Apart from the joys and challenges of working in general practice, he particularly love getting to know the families of our patients, and look forward to slowly getting to know everyone who has chosen to trust this practice with their pet’s care. After relocating to the UK, he eventually settled in beautiful Cornwall where he live with his wife, Jessica and his 9 year old son. When Ben is not working, he spend my weekends with his family doing a host of outdoor hobbies, such as fishing, diving, golfing & gardening.
Dean – Practice Owner and Veterinary Surgeon
Dean is a Devonshire boy, growing up in Torbay and going to school in Totnes, before going to university in Nottingham. After graduating in 2012, he worked in mixed practice in Leicestershire for 4 years. Although he loved the variety of mixed practice, his passion was treating small animals and he moved to small animal only practice when relocating to Cornwall with his wife Dee in 2017. Since then, alongside loving the care and variety that general practice brings, he has developed a love for studying and treating animal eye conditions and gained his certificate in small animal ophthalmology in 2024. This means we will be accepting eye referrals very soon, but we will announce that in the near future once we have the ball rolling! Dean is currently working towards gaining his advanced practitioner status too! In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and is a father of two young boys, who are 7 and 5 years old. Dean has a 12 year old terrier cross called Roma who he rescued whilst in Leicestershire. He enjoys exploring the Cornish countryside, being out on his kayak, playing board games and a good pint of beer!
Jo – Head Veterinary Nurse
Jo has been working with animals for over 24 years, starting her career in London at The RSPCA Harmsworth Hospital, she then went into private practice where she was head nurse of three practices, and then finally made the change to work in a small animal practice in rural Devon 9 years ago. She feels very privileged to be able to say she loves her job. Jo has wanted to work with animals since she can remember, and feels so lucky to say she gets to do it every day! Building a trusting relationship with clients and their pets is of utmost importance, she doesn’t have any pets herself, but she gets to look after other peoples as she would her own.
Jo is a clinical supervisor, which means she gets to help train future nurses, and also have a distinction certificate in feline nursing from The International Society Of Feline Medicine. She loves living in Devon, especially so close to Dartmoor where she loves to explore and photograph the ever changing scenery. Jo joined the Roborough Vets team in September 2026, and she is very excited to get to know all of our lovely clients!
Kirsty – Veterinary Nurse
Kirsty qualified as an RVN in 2019 and joined our team in September 2022. She has always had a keen interest in animals and previously worked with horses for 13 years. She is currently a slave to a Border Collie, Irish Cob and two Holland Lop rabbits. In the past she has owned many species and breeds from sheep to a Bengal Eagle Owl. Two animal highlights for her have been working hands-on with a pack of wolves and while on CPD she pi-pi-pi-picked up a penguin!! She lives with her partner, and with his two boys they enjoy exploring the countryside and playing board games.
Mhairi – Veterinary Nurse
Mhairi qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2019 at Duchy college after completing a foundation degree. She joined the Team in February 2023 and has fitted in perfectly! She is very passionate about canine behaviour having worked with dogs for 14 years and is currently studying to become a canine behaviourist. Outside of work, she can be found with her two dogs exploring and going on adventures.
Shannon – Veterinary Nurse
Shannon started working at our practice in February 2024. She qualified in level 3 Veterinary Nurse in November 2021. Shannon’s always been interested in all animals as she grew up on her family’s dairy farm. Every year Shannon shows her own Brown Swiss cows at the local and county shows, alongside her family’s herd of Holsteins. She also looks after her cat called Sox, and Jack Russel called Max.
Beccy – Veterinary Nurse
Beccy began working as a veterinary receptionist in a busy first opinion practice in 2015, before progressing to student nurse and then qualifying as an RVN in 2021. She joined the Roborough team in January 2026. Beccy currently also works for a veterinary referral service, where she is developing her skills in orthopaedic nursing. She has always had a keen interest in anaesthesia and analgesia and is in the process of completing a certificate in Anaesthesia to further develop her skills. Outside of work, Beccy is kept busy by her toddler and two dogs and enjoys walking on the moors, running, kayaking and spending time with her husband.
Bethan – Veterinary Nurse
Bethan qualified in 2018 from Duchy College with a foundation degree in veterinary nursing. She has two family dogs and a cat, who is still coming to terms with her relocation back to Plymouth (over a year and a half ago), after working in Bude in a busy 24 hour practice. Bethan joined us in June 2025 as maternity cover, but is excited to be staying on as a permanent member of the team. She enjoys all aspects for veterinary nursing, but has a keen interest in laboratory and imaging. During her free time, she enjoys losing herself in her D&D character and her new hobby of sewing, creating lovely dresses and the odd outfit to match with the dogs. She also loves sewing gifts to share with family and friends.
Shannon – Animal Nursing Assistant
Shannon joined Roborough Vet in August 2022 whilst completing her Veterinary nursing assistant course at Rosewarne College. Shannon has a huge love for animals and knew from a young age that caring for them was exactly where her heart belonged. She’s happiest when surrounded by paws whiskers and wagging tails. When she’s not at work, she loves spending time with her family going on holidays and heading out on walks and exploring the great outdoors along with her two fur babies.
Louise – Head Receptionist
Louise joined our team in July 2022, but has worked as a veterinary receptionist in a busy vet hospital for 13 years prior to coming here! She enjoys all aspects of being a front-of-house member of staff, including meeting and greeting all our lovely clients and their pets. Louise is in charge of our social media accounts and helps maintain our website, in fact, she’s our go-to for anything to do with computers or technology! Louise also maintains the Pet Health Plan memberships and helps to process the insurance claims in practice. Outside of work she enjoys spending quality time out and about, or simply at home, with her partner, two sons, a crazy Cockerdor called Scully, an old cat called Dexter and a kitten called Oswald!
Shana – Receptionist
“Yes, I’m the one that wears the flamboyant headgear”, but did you know that this lady was once a ‘Jenny Wren’ many moons ago?! After what seems like a lifetime in ladies’ retail, she decided to take more of a back seat. In December 2020 she was given the opportunity to join Duncan, Hazel and the Roborough Vet family, and long may it continue. Shana has two gorgeous Cocker Spaniels called Wilson and Murdoch.
Chloe – Receptionist (maternity leave)
Chloe joined Roborough Vets in June 2024 and has loved being part of the team ever since. She previously worked as a Receptionist in a fast-paced veterinary practice for two and a half years. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, going for walks, and visiting zoos and aquariums. She loves the TV show Friends, which inspired the name of my pet Yemen Chameleon, Chandler Bing. Chloe is also loving life as a new mum and enjoying her bundle of joy!

Tristam – Veterinary Surgeon
Tristam is a friendly and experienced Locum Veterinary Surgeon who is passionate about providing the very best care for every patient he meets. Working with veterinary practices and their teams, Tristam enjoys building relationships with colleagues, clients and their much-loved pets. With a calm, approachable manner and a genuine love for animals, Tristam is dedicated to making every visit as positive and stress-free as possible.
India – Veterinary Surgeon
India loves working at Roborough and particularly enjoys the time spent with both clients and colleagues. She has a special interest in internal medicine and imaging, and is passionate about developing her knowledge and skills in these areas. India values the variety each day brings and enjoys building trusted relationships with those she supports. Outside of work, India enjoys kayaking, silversmithing, and cycling. She spends as much time outdoors as possible and can most often be found on a beach – come rain or shine!
